5 Summer Fashion Trends to Try No Matter Your Size or Budget!

Summer is right around the corner—is your wardrobe prepared? I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited for summer (which may or may not mean I need to get a life) and have already been envisioning every single outfit I’ll be wearing during the 90+ day season.

But with SO much out there to chose from, having a little handy guide to help you sort out what to get is helpful, right? We’re totally on the same wavelength then because I put together a list of 5 summer fashion trends you totally need to try no matter your size or budget. I even help you out more by providing widgets you can shop directly from to get your summer fashion fix. Check it out!

1. Neon. Can I just go ahead and admit that I’m super obsessed with the neon trend and that I hope it never ever goes away? I’m talking neon nails, shoes, watches, sneakers, shorts, undies—-I want it all! Plus it’s such an easy trend to indulge in.

Think neons don’t flatter your coloring? Hey, we all can’t look good in every incarnation of a color, but you CAN work in colors that aren’t your best by wearing them away from the face.

My neon vs neon moments…on the left with NARS Thakoon collection polish on Koliary, on the right with CND Shellac. La Mer Collection neon watch.

2. Statement Necklace. So say you’re so over all the clothes in your wardrobe, but you don’t necessarily have the time nor money to just do an overhaul and buy all new duds. How else do you jazz things up without going broke? The statement necklace! It works on everyone and adds some variety to your wardrobe.

I added a By Malene Birger leather necklace to a nothing special outfit consisting of an ASOS blazer, H&M tank, and black skinny jeans I’ve had since forever and all of a sudden, things get interesting.

3. Prints. Whether you use them to accent your solids or mixed them together, prints are big this summer. And within reason—the season’s biggest prints like floral, polka dots, and tribal add an element of interest that updates just about any look.

4. Tangerine. It is the color of the year after all! This bold, punchy hue is dying to be in your summer wardrobe whether it’s in the form of a blouse, dress, shorts, shoes, bangles, bag–well, I’m sure you get it…lol.

5. Sporty Chic. Who knew those terrible gym shorts we wore in the 80s would come back and be fashionable? I’m kind of really digging the sporty chic trend mostly because it’s the way I like to dress most of the time (thereby why I am still single). You don’t have to be dressed like Sue Sylvester from head-to-toe to indulge in this trend—you can simply add in elements like the cool new high tops that have hit the scene or pretty much check out anything Alexander Wang.

I’m all in with the athletic trend—I totally rock these red Adidas high tops and often.

And these Alexander Wang sandals I spotted at the Barneys New York Outlet at Tanger Outlets were so going to be mine if they didn’t bite my toes. *sigh*. Hopefully a more fitting pair will show up on The Outnet.

Which summer trends are you most excited about? Let’s talk ALL about it in the comments!

Lady Gaga, Madonna And The Beatles Named To TIME's List Of All-Time Fashion Icons

Gaga and Macca

Each year, TIME names its 100 Most Influential People in the World and that much-touted list is often accompanied by supplementary lists, including this year's countdown of the "All-TIME 100 Fashion Icons." A number of our favorites made that list – though there are a few notable absences.

The majority of the list is composed of Designers and Brands, Models and Photographers, but many celebrities who inspired the direction of fashion over the years were rounded up under the broad category of "Muse." There are classic muses like Josephine Baker, James Dean, Farrah Fawcett, Jean Harlow, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Bettie Page and Princess Diana, whose signature styles the public tried to emulate (and still do – walk around the Brooklyn neighborhood of Williamsburg on a nice day and you are guaranteed to see feathered "Farrah" hair or short, blunt pinup-style bangs). Then there are the rockers: The Beatles, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga and Madonna.

(First Lady Michelle Obama also made the list!)

The magazine goes in depth about Madonna's influence as a style icon, writing, "Embraced early as a fashion idol — especially for the young generation — Madonna never ceased to amaze, nor has she ever lost control of her look or her career. From bridal gowns to cone bras and from sexy menswear to Asian inspirations, anything Madonna touched was emulated by her legions of fans around the world."

Gaga is praised for being "as notorious for her outrageous style as she is for her pop hits."

We don't disagree with any of TIME's selections and understand they had a finite number of spots to fill, but, um, where are Beyonce and Taylor Swift – two modern stars whose off-stage style has had a direct impact on modern fashion? If you live outside of a major city, Swifts princess-meets-down home country chic style is about as ubiquitous as it gets. And while Gaga is of course a fashion icon, Swift (just as Madonna and MJ) actually impacts what people wear. just sayin.'

Do you agree with TIME's list? Let us know in the comments below.

How to wear a red maxi dress

I love wearing the colour red and as this was such a vivid colour and so muhu of it I think the best colour to wear with it is black - anything else and it could look a bit much - keep it simple!

Urbanity Chic Launch Reveals the Best Emerging Talent in Fashion

Upcoming Fashion Talent -Urbanity Chic

Upcoming Fashion Talent is a new book by Urbanity Chic that combines an insightful slant on the creative people that work in the fashion industry. By concentrating on the people themselves, the book gives a unique, personal and reflective perspective on artistic creativity in fashion.

Throughout the book, separate chapters discussing some of fashion world’s greatest icons are dispersed with insightful interviews about upcoming creative models, photographers and designers. Upcoming Fashion Talent endeavors to explore these people’s successes, interests, motivations and experiences.

A spokesperson for Urbanity Chic, when questioned about their new book release said:

“One thing I’m sure you’ll notice from reading this book is that there are similarities between everyone that’s mentioned in Upcoming Fashion Talent irrespective of personal interests, geographical location, profession or experience.

Everyone either has or is working towards breaking out of established patterns, either within their life, their situation or their art and is looking at things in a different way. This is definitely a sign of incredible creativity.”

At a recent launch party, Kevin Allen, the Editor-in-Chief of Urbanity Chic mentioned:

“People who are interested in fashion or the creative arts will gain a lot by reading this book. It’s always good to learn about how other people’s experiences, drive and interests have contributed to their success.

Also, there’s some great photo’s, gossip and news, that I’m sure that people not directly involved in fashion will like too.”

He also commented about the motives behind the book’s inception:

“Everyone featured within this book has been an inspiration for me and I wanted to put it in a platform that I could share with others. Still now, I like to dip into for a short time, say when I’m free on the train, and always find something insightful that makes me smile.”

Upcoming Fashion Talent is distributed by Havivah Publishing and is currently available internationally on iTunes,Amazon and all good online retailers.

Eat your heart out Suri Cruise! The new wave of fashion blogs where it's the under-fives setting the trends

A new crop of blogs dedicated to the tiniest of trendsetters is taking over the street-style sphere.

The websites, which emulate the aesthetic of Bill Cunningham and The Sartorialist's Scott Schuman, focus on the well-dressed, inspired and inspiring children that give both Suri Cruise and Shiloh Jolie-Pitt a run for their money.

Hide and Go (Style), a children's fashion blog which launched earlier this year along with similar sites The {Tiny} Times, Children With Swag and Planet Awesome Kid, aims to change the way people define style.

Chic children: The new crop of street-style websites focus on the well-dressed, inspired and inspiring kids that give both Suri Cruise and Shiloh Jolie-Pitt a run for their money

Cute and cosy: Parents are passing down their style ideals to a new crop of taste-makers

Whether they are wearing a miniature pocket square or a pint-size smoking jacket, these children wear their tiny trends with confidence and poise, something that Erica Tashiro, the 24-year-old behind Hide and Go (Style), is drawn to.

She explained: 'Style is not only the clothes itself but how the child carries themselves.

'I strongly believe children are the most natural [compared to adults] - whether it is in front of the camera, or strutting down the street wearing a mismatched outfit,' she said.

While Ms Tashiro, who is based in New York, takes her own photos for her blog, many others, including Planet Awesome Kid, rely on parents sending in images of their well-dressed children.

Trendy toddlers: High-fashion tots are taking over the street-style sphere with a series of new blogs dedicated to fashion-savvy tots

Sartorial success: Whether they are wearing a miniature pocket square, a pint-size blouse, or rolled up chinos, these children wear their tiny trends with confidence and poise

Julia Samersova, 37, started the blog Planet Awesome Kid as a way to capture the style of children around New York after she gave birth to her first daughter three years ago, but now she receives submissions from parents around the world.

She said: 'Children (especially the older ones that already dress themselves) have a truly amazing way of expressing themselves through their intrinsic style.

'It is the only time in one's life that you can dress with absolutely no rules and no regard for any regulations'

She continued: 'I find the beauty in the way kids dress. Essentially it is the only time in one's life that you can dress with absolutely no rules and no regard for any regulations. It is even more exciting to see how kids dress in different countries and different cultures.'

Ms Tashiro said that a surprising amount of children she photographs for Hide and Go (Style) do put their own outfits together.

But even even if their parents coordinate their looks, she still gives the child 'full credit for wearing the outfit with confidence'.

Children's fashion has come a long way since sweat suits and oversize, badly printed outerwear, and many parent's relish in dressing their children in tiny trends.

Individual style: Erica Tashiro said that a surprising amount of children she photographs for Hide and Go (Style) do put their own outfits together

Tiny sartorialist: Some of the kids style blogs are about the children themselves, their playtime, travel and childhood milestones - and the clothes they wear while it all takes place

Karla Courtney, who started her blog The {Tiny} Times as a way to document her stylish son's adventures in Sydney to family back home, said: 'My husband and I most definitely dress our son. He is not even two! Only more recently has he made any of his own sartorial choices, and they are usually his Batman cape, a backpack or a funny hat.'

While some believe that blogs portraying children dressed up like little mini-mes only serves to objectify the young toddlers through their parent's own projection of 'cool,' Ms Samersova disagrees

'Children are the most natural, whether in front of the camera, or strutting down the street wearing a mismatched outfit'

She said: 'I do not subscribe to the opinion that what makes kids cute is that they are mini adults.
What we focus on at Planet Awesome Kid is kids being kids. Kooky, crazy, impulsive and free!'

Ms Tashiro, whose thesis for Tisch School of the Arts concentrated on children role playing as adults, said she loves that children are influenced by the grown-ups around them - which can be very apparent in their outfits.

Whether they take their style cues from designer-focused parents, hipster parents or professional parents, children dressing-up like mum and dad is completely normal and healthy says Ann Barbour, a professor of early childhood education at California State University.

She explained: 'Adults are favorite subjects of early play. This is especially normal development for little girls as they start working out for themselves what it means to be female.'

Super swagger: Even if the toddlers parents coordinate their looks, they get full credit for wearing the outfit with confidence on the fashion blogs

Today's street-style obsessed culture appears to have had an effect on how these chic city toddlers put themselves together, as they continue to take social cues from their ever-stylish parents and the adults around them.

Ms Tashiro said: 'During college I worked very closely with children, so I spent most of my time getting to know city kids and observing them - and one thing that really stuck out was what the kids wear in comparison to what children my age wore when I was a child in a small suburban neighborhood.'

Whether or not parents are passing down their style ideals to a new crop of taste-makers, there is something compelling about seeing a look you might conceivably want to emulate, as worn by a high-fashion toddler.

Whether it's a baby in motorcycle boots, a little boy in a bow tie,or a toddler rocking the kind of pose you expect to see from Jay Z, there is something magical about confident kids who are, essentially, showing you how it's done.
