Rachel Bilson you are soo cute

Rachel Bilson still manages to not only look like a million bucks, but to dress like one as well.

Seen here, Rachel is wearing a black bejeweled dress. It’s very simple and elegant, and it compliments her skin. The jewels at the neckline bring out her eyes, and her hair is elegantly pulled back into a bun.

She tops off the outfit with some gold chunky bracelets and she couldn’t look more stunning. Rachel has done it again!
And how cute does she look here?

Statement Shoes

I am more and more coming to the conclusion that statement shoes are all that are needed to make an outfit pop. Nina Hjorth's creations are perfect for doing just that. Bright colours and quirky shapes are merged together into simple yet striking designs that are screaming out to me to be worn day-in-day-out. I especially like the interesting heel shapes, my personal favourites being the black pair below which remind me of lego.

Sometime I worry about when the time comes that I actually have money to spend on designer shoes, my wardrobe won't know what's hit it!

Imagine...

...you've got a really important business meeting that you're totally unprepared for. There's good reasons for your lack of preparations, mostly involving vodka, but you are petrified that you're going to crash and burn in the boardroom. The solution? Wear an outfit that is hypnotic. This creation from Basso&Brooke will draw the attention away from whatever rubbish you're spouting and leave your fellow suits mesmerised by your fabulous taste in clothing, and ability to match (shoes and jacket, very classy, very businesslike).

...your super-hot male friend asks you to help him to move house. You need to look alluring but also be able to move about - he has a load of junk that needs boxing up and moving out. Peter Pilotto has the solution, shorts and a shirt is a simple combination but will make you look cool and show that you really are there to help. Plus short-shorts show off your legs, although pumps might be better than these heels when you're helping to lug a piano up four flights of stairs.

...you've been invited to a "bad taste party" at uni. You don't actually want to look totally hideous because, well you would be completely ashamed. This is what Henry Holland is for. You'd have to be brave to wear this outfit on a normal night out, but under the guise of "bad taste" you can show off this wonderful ensemble.

...you've been asked out by a cowboy. In the 90s. I am so in love with this from Sienna Miller's Twenty8Twelve that I'm currently developing a time machine to ensure I do find myself in that situation.

...it's your first lecture at uni, you want to look cute and clever. I would suggest that you remember to dry your hair though, you don't want to catch a chill. I love how this outfit is demure and scholarly without being drab. And the socks/legwarmers match the coat - cute as!

...you just want to look super hot! Burberry Prorsum is all you need.

How LVMH lured Phoebe Philo back to Fashion

First, catch your designer  . . .
Luxury brand owners – read this! How do you lure yourself a 24 carat designer into the fold? We’ve uncovered the secrets of how LMVH persuaded a recalcitrant Phoebe Philo to sign for Celine. Ms Philo, woman of the moment – name on everyone’s lips, trousers on every editor’s hips, cover star of much anticipated new biennial style bibleThe Gentlewoman and whose Celine show was the hot ticket at Paris Fashion Week.
Phoebe was at another French heritage brand – Chloe, during some of its most successful years (remember the Paddington bag?) first as Stella McCartney’s right hand woman, then after her departure in 2001, as Creative Director.
In 2006 she left voluntarily to look after her young family, feeling worn out from commuting between London (home) and Paris (Chloe) to the sound of a collective sigh of disappointment from all the fashion editors (‘Whaddawe going to wear NOW?’). So the announcement of her return to the international catwalks, as head designer for Celine was quite a coup for owners LMVH.
But how did they pull it off? Pierre-Yves Roussel, chief executive of LVMH's fashion division, travelled to Londonevery other week for nearly a year to persuade Phoebe to come on board at the brand. The company also agreed to build her a design studio in London, so she wouldn’t have to face the cross-Channel commute.
As well as these allowances for Philo herself, certain other changes were put in place. All remaining stock from the brand was “destroyed” (yikes, how mafiosa), and all but one Celine store was closed in the United States. Ties to less exclusive retailers like Bloomingdale's and Net-a-Porter were cut, and the accent was restored to the brand's name in a bid to elevate the brand.
It looks like their strategy has paid off! The entire audience of fashionistas at the AW show in Paris this week was clad in the spring collection and the latest offering has received rave reviews from all and sundry for its grown up, woman-friendly, minimal pieces. Our own Style Director Paula Reed earmarked the show as one of her favourites of the season, describing it succinctly as ‘beautiful’

Maxi Heaven

Lately Ive been saying Sup? as just a greeting. Its a lot of fun to say, the sound it makes is really clear and it pops, like bubbles in champagne... or apple cider or whatever. Sup, sup, sup. Im having way too much fun with the word. Its hilarious.

Ive collected these photos over the past couple of months... do you see a pattern? The pattern-less bright maxi skirt with a small white tee seems so refreshing to me right now, a look made famous by Jil Sanders Spring 2011 collection. These photos make me happy, especially right now as Im dealing with being let down by different friends of mine. You know, its just the type of social upset that is expected to be the norm in highschool. But really, right now Im hurting and it isn't any fun. But in happier news, my boyfriend gave me a strand of beautiful blue pearls for Valentines Day, and Im still in shock over it.

I was thisclose to naming the post Why The Longgg Face? But I thought that would have been a little too much, for various reasons.

Topshop Lookbook Love

Topshop Unique S/S '11

Sometimes a collection comes along that you feel has been specifically designed with you in mind. Obvs, most fashion designers aren’t inspired by me (preeetty sure they don’t know who I am) but this past spring/summer season was like Massimiliano Giornetti at Ferragamo and Karl Lagerfeld at Fendi hacked into my fashion psyche to share my belief that it was about time the 1970s had a comeback. And not the boring been-there-boho thing, but smart seventies suiting instead, to be worn with knee-high mum boots and be fedora-topped and pussy-bow-bloused.

Jodie Foster and Faye Dunaway

It’s the decade I’ve been practically campaigning to bring to the fashion fore since I was born. I certainly don’t do '80s (eugh - too flashy), I don’t do '60s (haven’t got the legs), I will occasionally venture in the '50s and '40s but steer a little clear for the fear of being a cringey pastiche. But the seventies, well, for some reason it always works for me. All of my style icons are seventies sirens: Faye Dunaway in Eyes of Laura Mars, the Cagney & Laceygirls, Iris (Jodie Foster) in Taxi Driver, Bianca Jagger (it was such a pleasure to see her still looking so glamorous at the BFAs last month), Lou Lou de la Falaise, Betty Davis, Jane Fonda in 9-5, Jerry Hall, Stevie Nicks, Betty Catroux….

Enough of my enthusiasm for what’s old – and lets appreciate the what’s new and why the bloody hell I’m harping on about the seventies. It’s all down to Topshop. Trusty Toppers will be my key high street destination now that their new spring/summer collections are dropping online and zooming into stores. Why? Duh! Because they’re doing that seventies thing better than anyone else. And there’s a particularly noticeable (and appreciated) avoidance of such obvious and lazy hippy creations (think Sienna’s tiered maxis and furry gilets circa 2004) that no doubt many shops will adopt simply because the seventies, in general, are this season's key decade of inspiration. Well done TS. You’ve made me a very happy shopping bunny indeed. They’re calling this section of their collection ‘Swedish Summer’ and it’s quite possible that in their downtime, Abba beauties Anni-Frid andAgneta would totes be lounging around the outdoor sauna in such lovely garb, barbequing a Fläskkorv or two (that’s a Swedish sausage BTW). We can see that.

Two other key collections, ‘Modern Constellation’ and ‘Graduation’ hit some mega high notes when it comes to must-have trends for this fresh season. Super-brights, luxurious sportswear and a new, pared-down but feminine modernity are all be on the Toppers menu. Now, tell me if it’s just me and my obsession, but don’t you see a seventies vibe in each and every line? The midi skirts, portfolio clutches, wooden wedges, palazzo pants…. Someone stop me, because I’m about to spend A LOT of money.

Scandinavian for value

Copenhagen StreetStyle this week gives us Rebecca, aged 15. Yes, 15. Why was I not this cool when I was 15? Why am I still not this cool 10 years later?! I think the main answer to this question is because I am not Scandinavian.

My hypothesis is thus: being Scandinavian automatically makes you 26 times cooler fashion-wise than everyone else.

Proof #1 is Rebecca here with her cosy big scarf, messy-chic hair, wonderful fringe, simple outfit and (as far as I can tell) no need for make-up. And also just Copenhagen StreetStyle in general, see below for examples.

(another annoyingly stylish 15 year old. Totally unfair.)

Proof #2 is FashionGirl on Stockholm Streetstyle who is my style icon. She dresses in a really simple way and yet always looks totally fashionable and original.

Proof #3 is Swedish label Acne. The coolest label going, and not ridiculously expensive either. Plus you won't end up looking like a fashion victim as Acne plays by its own rules instead of enforcing jeggings on the world. (Ditto Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair)

Hypothesis proved. The End. Case closed.

Fashion Melt-Down

I am currently experiencing a fashion melt-down. Having being bombarded by too many images of beautiful clothing I now have absolutely no idea which way is up and which is down.

I have come home to my usual routine of facehunter, stylebubble, stilinberlin,style.com followed generally by a mish-mash of other websites of note (at the moment my new favourite is the cool hunter) which fills my daily quota of fashiony stuff. Today there was far too much for my brain to deal with and it has gone into overdrive. Do I want to blog about Susie Bubble's adorable outfit that was captured by facehunter (with added motorcycle, which I like to think is actually Susie's)? Or do I want to blog about how I agree with her post about Fendi?

Ahhhhhhhh

Tailored Jackets

Tailored jackets are one of the absolute must-haves for this season. Not only are they unbelievably cute, but they’re very versatile as well so it won’t sit in your closet for weeks without being used. Tailored jackets include blazers, cardigans, and any other jacket that has a tailored fit to it.

These jackets are very important to your wardrobe because they provide you with many different possibilities of wearing it. A tailored jacket will dress up any pair of jeans, any day, as well as skirts, and any other items. With a pair of jeans and heels, the tailored jacket gives you that ‘dresses up’ look but without all the stiffness. It makes an outfit looks absolutely fabulous.

Tailored jackets are also great because they’re tailored! They fit your body contours and give you a nice, fit shape. They look professional and sophisticated all at the same time.

They’re also great for a chilly spring day, and basically to spruce up any old outfit.
