Accessory Trend: Statement Jewellery

Statement jewellery has arisen to a new level of significance for 2009 - Big, bold and oversized any thing goes....

Jewelry is all about making a statement, be it a necklace, a bangle or a cocktail ring. From ethnic beading, to exotic stones, to avant garde pieces, the one thing is constant: it must be big and bold. Click here to read more on the statement jewellery trend.Shoe Trends for Spring/Summer 2009

Themes

: Jewellery in the 2009 collections took many and various forms. There were a few common threads amoung them, however, including

Geometric shapes
Exotic and ethnic inspirations
Rich colours; prominent stones and gems

Bracelets, bangles and cuffs

Bracelets took various forms on the runways - from simple chains to chunky bangles. It was the ornate cuff that really took trend status, however, worn on the upper arm or the wrist.

How to wear this Jewellery Trend

The core difference between the previous season of bold jewellery and the 2009 trend is the clothing it's worn with. While 2008 was about playing down the clothing to make the jewels the stand-out feature, 2009 is not afraid to team wildly bold or colourful clothing with over-the-top accessories. Experiment with clashing colours and styles - make them as interesting as possible.

For more subdued occasions, there's always the option to pair statement pieces with a little black dress, or even jeans and a tee. Whatever your preference, the bottom line is that when it comes to jewellery in 2009, the bigger and more exotic, the better!

Fairy-Tale Romance

Think chiffon flapper tunics/dresses/tops anything that gives you the light romance feeling.

It’s not the most practical of trends when it comes to every-day wear; but the romantic fairy-tale princess dress certainly had it’s place on the runway for Spring/Summer 2009. Romantic details and classic fairytale silhouettes will make their mark on red carpets and down church isles: but don’t be dismayed, there are practical applications for Romantic elements as well.

Flouncing ruffles, rosette clusters, and delicate capelets. Moving away from the sleek and sexy, designers topped off their Summer 2009 runway shows with the ultimate in romantic gowns; making the fairy-tale dress somewhat of a 2009 trends.

How to Rip Your Own Jeans

Acquiring an awesome pair of ripped jeans can be expensive - unless you know how to make them yourself. It may require a little patience, but it's quite simple:

1. Do some research. Look online and in fashion magazines for the best-looking rips. Most jean companies seem to place them in areas that you wouldn't naturally tear.
2. Decide upon the jeans. Use old or new. Try jeans from a thrift shop for practice.
3. Decide upon the size of the rip. It may enlarge each time you wash your jeans.
4. Decide upon the shape of the rip. You may wish to extend a rip in several different directions.
5. Decide which techniques to use. You may wish to let the fabric become thin on its own. A few techniques, to begin the process, may be all that's needed.
6. Gather your jeans, coarse sandpaper, pumice stone, wood file, grater, utility knife, scissors and a small, flat block of wood.
7. Draw a cutting line or pattern on your jeans with a pencil.
8. Place a block of wood "inside" the pant leg beneath the area.
9. Rub and scrape the fabric in several different directions. Use sandpaper, a pumice stone, wood file and grater. These will fray the fabric.
10. Loosen fibers by scraping with the blade of a utility knife.
11. Using the scissors, cut a hole through the loosened fibers.
12. Retain all of the loose fibers. They will progressively fray each time you wash your jeans. Use a dryer for fluffier fray.
13. Wear colored nylons or stockings beneath your ripped jeans.

Tips
For exact rips, use a sewing needle to pull out individual stitches from the fabric.
Use scissors to increase fraying. Cut small snips into the edges of the rip.
Add stitching along the edges of a rip to keep it from fraying or ripping more.
Repair a rip with a colorful fabric patch.
Be more active. Sooner or later, your jeans will rip on their own.

Warnings
Use caution with sharp tools.

Things You'll Need

Bag trends for Spring/Summer 2009

With the huge influence of recession many designers have focused their attention on accessories rather than garments. Jewelry, shoes, handbags of this season are very unusual and bright.

Besides, they are present everywhere, in every single collection, worn with pride and an elegant air by all the top models on the catwalk.
The handbag is no longer considered by designers as a mere accessory that can be included or may be ignored. It has become a fundamental element of a woman’s look. Its mission is not limited to practicality; it is chic and complements a woman’s personality and style.

Trends of this season very much, from highly practical huge totes to tiny eccentric clutches for evening wear. Every woman of fashion will be able to find something that suits her style and taste.

Wide, very comfortable bags in all colors imaginable – beige, white, black, metallic, gold, violet, orange, green, blue, etc. – will be extremely popular this season.

Finally dont forget the oversized bag!!!!

Carrying a big bag has been a trend that has been around for a while now. Not only is it a trend, it is also very practical to put all your stuff in one bag, instead of 2 or 3, which I have been known to do before.

Peaches and Pixie Geldof took the big bag to another level howevere - when they were seen showing off the new Mulberry Roxanne tote

Handbags make any outfit work for you. It can take a drab look straight to high fashion in a matter of seconds.

Boyfriend Jeans

Although we saw this trend first pop up as far back as August, it didn’t necessarily stick, especially since the celebrity seen setting this trend was Katie Holmes struggling for whatever she could salvage from her post-marriage career.

So for now I’m not hesitant as to whether or not the boyfriend denim jeans trend is going to be popular, it is! Rather, I’m more hesitant as to whether people are going to get it right or not. :)
As we can see from the picture above, some of the celebrities sporting this trend look a little fashionable, but can be explained by the fact that some of these women would look good in a burlap sack. This is merely yet another nail in the coffin of old trends coming back after a number of years with a new name; we can all rest assured that carpenter-style jeans are back again.
